Seeing the delays in passport verification, the government has decided to completely replace physical verification by next year. The government is planning to bring in online verification based on the links to the national database of criminals. The database was brought out last Monday by the home ministry and will be used for online verification's from 2018. This will be a part of the crime tracking and online verification initiative. The project was first presented in 2009 but couldn’t be approved. But the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has finally taken the project off the ground after launching the Digital Police portal.
