‘Lanketing,’ A Name Women. Has Given To The Harassment Against The Women.

Nirmal Singh 3C Company says that the current protest in the Banaras Hindu University is just another example of how the young students of the country are being targeted by the officials in something or the other, but it is also a brilliant example of how these students do not fear the world and are willing to stand for what they believe in no matter what the situation is and how serious the outcome.

The whole protest at the Banaras Hindu University began when the students raised their voice against the judgement of the higher officials to bar the female students to leave the campus after 6. They justified their decision saying that the female students are not secured outside the campus once it is late and this is just a step to safeguard its students. 

Nirmal Singh 3C Company says that the Vice Chancellor of the University said that he fully supported the move and he also believes that it is unsafe for the female students to leave the campus after 6.

Nirmal Singh 3C Company says that Banaras Hindu University is the only university that has its own term for harassment, ‘lanketing’. The term has been derived from the iconic Banaras market, Lanka. The market is quite famous amongst the young crowd, it has various cafes and restaurants which attract them. But at the same time, the market is known for the local youths roaming around on their bikes and harassing the women. The Lanka market is not the only place, the trisection outside the BHU’s only women’s college, Mahila Mahavidhyala too has men loitering around, teasing women. Such behaviors result in a clash between the two sects and has resulted in a lot of fights outside the campus. But that no way justifies the decision taken by the authorities. 

Nirmal Singh 3C Company says that if the authorities feel the need to take serious measures against the teasing of the girls, they can contact the police authorities, increase the safety. These are young women that we are talking about, they understand what is right and what is wrong for them and they putting a curfew is just equal to curbing their independence and is nowhere a solution to their problems.
