India Needs Encryption Laws Across All Technologies - Nirmal Singh 3C Company
Internet has taken over the
world, made everything an eye can see digitized. Internet usage is not limited
to just computers or browsers – mobile apps and even televisions use Internet.
Anything that is connected with an Internet connection is bound to collect
data. This data, in most cases, is your personal information – the forms you
fill online, your browser history, things you buy, your browsing pattern, even
the photos that are stored on clouds. This can’t be safe, can it? It isn’t. At
least not until you encrypt this data. For those who don’t know, encryption is
a simple [read: complicated] process in which the collected information and
data is transformed into a secret code and is unreadable to everyone who isn’t authorized
to decrypt it.
‘This is a serious issue, our information is not safe and pressing steps
should be taken to minimize the cyber security breaches that have been taking
place in the country.’ - Nirmal Singh

The data is collected on the
servers that can be anywhere. The location of the servers doesn’t matter – what
matters is how secure those servers are. Over the last few months, many
incidents have been recorded of these servers being compromised. Last month,
information of 17 million people was stolen from the app of a fast food
restaurant. Some newspapers also ran a story on how easy it is to get a hold of
people’s personal Aadhaar details through these servers.
‘The ‘Digital India’ initiative
cannot thrive if the government of India didn’t bring in a solid framework for
cyber security. There should be laws regarding data encryption and what should
be the minimal security when it comes to personal information of the citizens.’
- NirmalSingh 3C Company
There are no laws regarding
information encryption in India. There should be a set standard across all
technologies so that regardless of the device you are using the Internet
services, you are sure that your information is safe and won’t be going in
wrong hands.
‘There is no guarantee that
cyber-attacks wouldn’t take place even if the encryption on the information is
of the highest standard, but that will surely minimize the risks of an attack –
at this point of time, that is all that matters. India, striving to be a
digital superpower in the coming years cannot afford to remain behind like
this’. - NirmalSingh 3C Company
